Our First Batch of Southern Salsa!

WE'RE BACK IN THE SALSA BUSINESS!
Well, it's not really a business, but for the first time in two years we made our own salsa from our own tomatoes, banana peppers and jalapenos. Utilizing (with permission) a hearty component of tomatoes from Vinnie & Maureen's garden (our neighbors across the street) we were able to make two batches (16 qts) from the first harvest.

The soil here is marketed as red concrete in the rest of the US so we needed to build a garden box and fill it with dirt that could actually grow something. It's very different growing things in NC than it is in OH, but here are pictures of the process and the finished product. WooHoo!

 Seedlings in the ground.

Ready for first harvest.

Very nice jalapenos.

Very nice jalapeno slicer.

Karen stirs one of the two salsa pots.

Karen cans the first batch.

Ready for lids.

SALSA SHMALSA!
The heck with this salsa stuff, Tucker.
What would you think about making our own HOT SAUCE?

Looks good! The salsa that is ... not so much the salsa slicer! :)

Thanks, Pastor John! As long as the salsa tastes better than I look, I think we did pretty well.

We are awaiting our crop to ripen!

Red dirt is clay. It's great for making bricks or pipes. As for the salsa--looks great. Hope it tastes as good as it looks. As for the slicer...

Hey Janet. you can plant a little earlier here and it gets hotter a little sooner...here's to a bumper salsa crop for you in GV!

I think T & T are wondering where the juicy tomatoes are. You did share a tomato with them didn't you :-)

Hey Mary, YES they did get their fair share of tomatoes!
